Chiru to wipe out factionalism

Praja Rajyam leader vows not to spare forces involved in factional feuds

Says ‘Praja Rajyam’ (people’s governance) is not much away from people

‘Elected leaders of other political parties have let the people down’

People scaled everything possible to have a better view of Chiranjeevi in Dharmavaram on Monday.

Mammoth crowd: People scaled everything possible to have a better view of Chiranjeevi in Dharmavaram on Monday.

DHARMAVARAM:

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi has asserted that his party, if voted to power, will go all out to root out factionalism in Rayalaseema where innocents were falling prey to rivalries for economic and political supremacy.

In an emotional speech while addressing a mammoth crowd that turned out for his road show here on Monday, the second day of his three-day Praja Ankita Yatra in the district, he said his party would not spare such forces and would deal with iron fist.

Law and order would be maintained to make sure no section in the society was exploited or targeted by selfish forces, he said. Every downtrodden section would be taken care of in appropriate measure in welfare, social security and livelihood aspects, he noted.

Discontent

There was ever-growing discontent among people as the leaders whom they voted to power had failed to do justice to them. “My party would provide the justice that had been eluding marginalised sections so far,” he said.

‘Praja Rajyam’ (people’s governance) was not much away from them and they could install it by showing confidence in PR, he told the people.

Mr. Chiranjeevi stated that his party would set up a Chenetha Welfare Board for uplift of weavers and handloom workers. Only the leaders of the community would be appointed on the board and they would design schemes in tune with the weavers’ wishes and needs.

Alleging that the governments had been neglecting weavers so far he claimed that the credit of the present government announcing loan waiver of Rs. 336 crore would go to PR as it was this party which highlighted the problem with his Sircilla visit. All other parties including the Congress had responded to the initiative taken up by PR.

People everywhere

There was a lively response to Mr. Chiranjeevi as his convoy passed through villages en route from Kothacheruvu to Anantapur.

Every street he passed through in Dharmavaram was jam-packed. Even the roof-tops of buildings, trees along the streets, poles and towers were occupied by the crowds to have a better view of the matinee-idol-turned politician.

Two killed during Chiru’s road show

One person’s fall from tree proves fatal, while the other gets trampled by crowd

ANANTAPUR:

Two persons were killed and another injured seriously during Praja Rajyam leader Chiranjeevi’s Praja Ankita Yatra in Dharmavaram on Monday.

In the first incident, two persons fell down from a tree at the NTR Circle in Dharmavaram while watching Mr. Chiranjeevi’s road show. Adinarayana (26) slipped and fell on the ground and Ramana (30) fell on him. While the former died on the way to hospital, Ramana is undergoing treatment in a hospital here. In the second incident, Tajuddin (36) was trampled to death by the crowd when he was running after Chiranjeevi’s vehicle.

PR leaders were not aware of the two incidents till they reached Bathalapalli where they informed Chiranjeevi. The PR president directed party leaders N.V. Prasad and V. Prabhakara Chowdary to rush to Dharmavaram and console the bereaved families. The party announced ex gratia of Rs. one lakh each to the families of the deceased.

PR divided over shortlisting and finalising aspirants

HYDERABAD:

The Praja Rajyam party has switched into overdrive trying to short-list the names of aspirants for Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies and, while on the job, the going appears to be getting tougher with leaders from two schools of thought trying to impose their will on party president K. Chiranjeevi.

While one school feels that any exercise to finalise candidates should start with the weaker sections, especially the Backward Classes, the other underscores the need for people from all sections to be included.

Ideological battle

Sources feel it boils down to an ideological battle those who are almost determined on playing caste-based politics and those who feel the need for ‘inclusive’ politics.

A case in point, highlighted recently, concerns Metpalli Assembly constituency in Karimnagar district. An MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party between 1999 and 2004, the late Tummala Venkataramana Reddy (46), known locally as Damu, joined the PR party and was quickly made district in-charge. While one section wanted him as the party’s candidate from Metpalli, there was a strong lobby that wanted a candidate from the Backward Classes to be named.

However, Damu’s demise following a massive cardiac arrest last Wednesday put paid to the issue.

There was some talk in party circles though that his widow, Mamatha, may in all probability be fielded from the constituency in the elections.

Those for ‘inclusive’ politics also asked Mr. Chiranjeevi to go easy and not announce his ‘preferences’ during his road shows, referring to his speech at Sircilla where he said he would give the party ticket to someone from the weavers’ community.

The case of Manemma, a tribal woman from Pambali village in Vakadu mandal of Nellore district was received differently though and many Praja Rajyam leaders appreciated his decision in making her a brand ambassador for the party.

Given the fact that Mr. Chiranjeevi belongs to the ‘Kapu’ community and also because of his emphasis from day one on ‘social justice’, there has been a general preference among people who matter in the PR party, for those from the ‘weaker sections’.

As of now, though, those responsible for short-listing candidates are busy with the ‘verification’ before passing on the list of candidates to the party’s high command.

On the second leg of party President K. Chiranjeevi’s ‘Praja Ankitha Yatra’, leaders were busy discussing probable candidates.

They were doing a rigorous exercise to fix a ‘broad criteria’, district-wise, as to what communities and sections of people, the aspirants should belong.

Where’s the development: Chiru

Reaching out: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi greeting people during his yatra in Anantapur district on Sunday.

HINDUPUR:

The third leg of Chiranjeeevi’s Praja Ankitha Yatra in Anantapur district on Sunday saw huge crowds according a rousing reception to the PR chief at his road shows and street-corner meetings. More than three-fourths of the turnout was youth and women. People came in large numbers even in small hamlets to cheer Chiranjeevi and his new political outfit.

There was a loud response from the crowds gathered to every word Chiranjeevi spoke against the government. . He succeeded in striking a chord with the masses immediately after setting off on his three-day tour in the district at Gorantla, a TDP bastion hitherto, when he compared the development boasted by the government with that of the failing groundnut crop in the district. “Like the lush green vegetative growth of groundnut on the surface the development being claimed by the government is also appearing good outside. But, at the same time the fruits of development have failed to reach a majority of the needy poor like pod-bearing of groundnut crop this season”, Chiranjeevi said. He alleged that government was snatching small land holdings from the small and marginal farmers in the name of SEZs only to hand them over to corporate and industrial sectors at throwaway prices, when the market rate was much higher than the procurement price.

When a small section of the people exhibited placards with slogans in support of SEZs at Kodikonda checkpost the PR president stressed the need for development of industries for improving the employment opportunities for the people of area concerned and not just indiscriminate snatching of lands.

The crowds ignored intermittent showers at several areas and waited for Chiranjeevi. His yatra passed through Chilamattur, Lepakashi and a number of villages before reaching Hindupur.

PR faults State on land acquisition

‘Party’s main agenda is social justice’

VISAKHAPATNAM:

Praja Rajyam (PR) leader Nagababu has deplored the acquisition of thousands of acres of fertile lands from farmers in the name of Coastal Corridor and Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

Addressing a media conference on Saturday, he said that the PR was opposed to development at the cost of loss of livelihood to the common people. He also alleged that there were several irregularities in the acquisition of lands by the State government.

Asked to comment on top leaders of various opposition parties keeping away from the Maha Dharna opposing the Coastal Corridor project, he said that Praja Rajyam was prepared to fight against the issue with all political parties as it concerns the common people.

He refused to buy the theory that the top Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders had kept away from the Maha Dharna as the agitation would give more mileage to the PR.

Mr. Nagababu said that top Communist Party of India (CPI) leader K. Narayana had come, but CPI (M) State leader B.V. Raghavulu couldn’t make it, as he was indisposed. Praja Rajyam supremo Chiranjeevi’s Rayalaseema tour was fixed long ago. He said that the PR main agenda was social justice, women empowerment and ‘gram swaraj’.

Replying to a query, he said that Mitra was one of the key persons in the party who was contributing to the growth of the party and would continue to do so. He said there was no truth in the rumours that Dr. Mitra would be quitting the party.

Alliances

He said it was for the party high command to decide on pre-poll alliances and the number of seats to be allotted to BCs in the forthcoming elections. He, however, said that the number of seats to be allocated would be in proportion to their population.

PR leader Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the State government had already destroyed hills and plains and it has now turned to sea. He demanded scrapping of PCPIR.

All set: Every street in Anantapur is covered with flex-boards of PR leaders ahead of Chiranjeevi’s tour beginning in the district on Sunday.

ANANTAPUR:

In the third leg of his ‘Praja Ankitha Yatra’, Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi will launch his six-day tour of Anantapur and Kadapa districts at Gorantla in the district on Sunday. He will tour four days and three nights in the district covering eight Assembly constituencies.

Tour managers of the party have been camping in the district for the last five days to make arrangements for the tour. Party observers Bhuma Nagi Reddy and N.V. Prasad have been coordinating with the local leaders of the party and fan clubs of Chiranjeevi to make the dedication tour a success.

According to the tour managers, Chiranjeevi will launch his Rayalaseema tour from Gorantla at 11.30 am on Sunday. Roads shows, street-corner meetings and roadside public meetings would be held along 300 km tour in the district. On the first day, he will cover Chilamattur, Lepakshi, Hindupur, Somandepalli, Penukonda, Ramapuram and Kothacheruvu with the last point being the night halt.

He will conduct road shows and street corner meetings at three circles in Hindupur. On the second day on November 17, Chiranjeevi will cover Dharmavaram, Bathalapalli, SKU, Rapthadu and Anantapur. He will spend about three hours in road show in the district headquarters city and make night halt in the market yard.

On November 18, the tour will pass through Garladinne, Pamidi, Gooty, Rayalacheruvu and Yadiki with the night halt at Tadipatri. Chiranjeevi will spend about two hours in road show at Tadipatri.

He will proceed to Talla Prodduturu in Jammalamadugu constituency in Kadapa district on November 19 morning.

The tour is aimed as a mass-contact exercise and also to attract the fence sitters in other parties into the party fold. Except a few leaders like V. Prabhakara Chowdary, H.B. Narse Gowda and D. Reddapa Reddy the party has failed to attract seasoned politicians. Most of the other entrants into the party were either businessmen or the leaders of fan clubs.

Both Congress and the TDP have their interests in Chiranjeevi’s tour as they are planning to gauge the support for the actor in the region which has been the stronghold only for the two parties so far.

Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi demands ‘greater Rayalaseema’ with 4 districts

Rs. 1 lakh crore special packages for development of the region sought

KADAPA:

Rayalaseema Rashtra Samithi president Kuncham Venkatasubba Reddy on Monday demanded that Prajarajyam president Chiranjeevi announce his stand on the demand for formation of ‘greater Rayalaseema’, before embarking on Rayalaseema tour.

He warned that RRS activists would obstruct Chiranjeevi’s tour in Kadapa district if Chiranjeevi failed to announce his support for statehood to ‘greater Rayalaseema’ as he did in the case of Telangana. Mr. Venkatasubba Reddy demanded ‘greater Rayalaseema’ with the four Rayalaseema districts, Nellore and Prakasam districts and Rs. 1 lakh crore special packages for development of the region.

He condemned Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhar Rao and TRS functionaries for raising pro-Telangana slogans and carrying party flags during their visit to the Tirumala temple and accused them of breaching the sanctity of the temple. Mr. Reddy demanded registration of a case on those violating the temple norms.

The RRS president charged Nava Telangana Party president T. Devender Goud with propagating the separate Telangana demand for selfish political reasons. He questioned Mr. Goud’s propriety in declaring Telangana state by himself. He urged the Congress, Telugu Desam Party, BJP and other parties to support the demand for ‘greater Rayalaseema’.

PRP leader takes a dig at rice millers

‘Rice millers dictating terms to the State government’

Judicial probe demanded into Moddu Seenu’s murder

Rajahmundry:

Praja Rajyam Party leader Barlapudi Ravindra Kumar has accused the Rice Millers’ Association of collecting over Rs.1 crore for Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tour in East Godavari district.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he alleged that rice millers were dictating terms to the government as well as to merchants on the price of rice.

He said that millers were selling rice to merchants at Rs.21 to Rs.22 a kg. Including transportation charges, merchants are getting rice at Rs. 23 and how they can sell the commodity at Rs.20 as fixed by the government, Mr. Ravindra Kumar asked. The State government failed to control millers, the PRP leader alleged. The PRP leader demanded judicial inquiry into the murder of Moddu Seenu in Anantapur jail.

‘My stand on Telangana clear’

PR chief Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad on Sunday.

At home: PR chief Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad on Sunday.

HYDERABAD:

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi has appealed to people to give him the required strength to mount pressure on the Centre to concede the demand for separate Telangana.

Reacting to claims by other Opposition parties that he lacked clarity on separate Telangana, Chiranjeevi told a press conference on Sunday that he made his stand on the issue amply clear during his tour of Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam. The PRP was not opposed to the demand and would welcome a resolution on the issue. The question, however, was how to give enough push to the demand at the Centre which should ultimately take a decision. Asked about the threat of TRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao that he would not be allowed to visit Telangana again in the absence of clarity on the demand, Chiranjeevi said it may be Mr. Rao’s personal opinion. Refering to hurling of eggs on him in Warangal, Chiranjeevi said he had asked the district leadership to withdraw cases against the culprits since they were students and their career would be marred.
