HYDERABAD:

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi will tour Warangal and Karimnagar districts over a period of five days from October 22.

After inaugurating the new office building that will serve as the main office on Road No. 5, Jubilee Hills, on Sunday, he asked the party’s core committee members to chalk out a detailed programme for him to cover the two districts in phase two of his ‘Praja Ankitha Yatra’.

The new office, spread over 30,000 square feet of space across three floors, will be the second one for the party and will be used for all functional activities, henceforth.

The present facility on Road No. 46, will hereafter serve the purpose for which it was initially constructed for, as the PR chief’s secretariat, where Chiranjeevi will interact with members of the core committee and select leaders.

Membership

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, the PR’s coordinator for membership, Thota Chandrasekhar, said over 35 lakh people had enrolled as members in the Praja Rajyam since October 2, when it opened for membership.

Another former IAS officer, K.S.R. Murthy, recalled how the visit to Sircilla by Mr. Chiranjeevi in September had forced Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Opposition leader Nara Chandrababu Naidu and even a Parliamentary delegation to take a closer look at the problem of weavers’ suicides.

A leader championing the cause of the Backward Classes, V.G.R. Naragoni, said Mr. Chiranjeevi’s commanding presence among people was making the Government and other political parties stand up, take notice and talk of help – be it the issue of SEZs or neglect of welfare.

Others present on the dais with Mr. Chiranjeevi were former MP Ch. Harirama Jogaiah, former IPS officer C. Anjaneya Reddy and spokesman P. Mitra, who also proposed the vote of thanks.

The actor’s younger brother, Pawan Kalyan, inaugurated one floor of the building.

VISAKHAPATNAM:

Praja Rajyam leader and former MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Sunday said the outfit formed by ‘megastar’ Chiranjeevi was a party with a difference.

Exuding confidence that the party was formed on the request of the masses, he told the first-ever public meeting of the party conducted near Sivaji Park junction here that Mr. Chiranjeevi was totally committed to establishing corruption-free governance.

Mr. Rao said Praja Rajyam would win all the segments in Visakhapatnam district and described how the people took to streets to appeal to Mr. Chiranjeevi to plunge into politics.

He said before forming the party, he had extended yeoman service through blood and eye donations.

‘Good response’

He said the storm created by Mr. Chiranjeevi in North Andhra with his roadshows would also be repeated in Telangana and Rayalaseema. “Wherever he goes, people from all sections will express overwhelming response,” he said.

Mr. Rao said during his chat with Mr. Chiranjeevi, he had agreed to interact with the cadres separately at Hyderabad and spare more time for his road shows in Visakhapatnam once he resumed his Praja Ankita Yatra.

Former Minister Reddy Satyanarayana said he was the first to join hands with Mr. Chiranjeevi before he launched a political party because of his confidence and liking for the megastar. He described how his colleagues in the Telugu Desam poked fun at him for his decision to quit the party.

Former Telugu Desam urban district president Zaheer Ahmad said it was time for the cadres of Praja Rajyam to consolidate the base of the party and sensitise the people on the political situation.

Chiranjeevi Blood Donors’ Club (North Andhra) president M. Raghava Rao presided. Former MLA P.V.G.R. Naidu, Praja Rajyam leaders P.R.S. Naidu, Vamsi Krishna Yadav and others spoke.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said Praja Rajyam would ensure a bright future for the State and pointed out that Mr. Chiranjeevi had entered politics not to make money like most politicians.

For him, politics was not business and service to the people was the main motto, he added.

Chiru will be forced to avoid fans, says Satyamurthy

‘He will have to turn to wealthy persons who seek his party ticket in elections’

There were many instances of fans being jettisoned after the purpose was served, he says

He says Congress and Telugu Desam know how to run an election campaign

VISAKHAPATNAM:

After some time Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi will face a situation whether he has to support his fans or the wealthy persons who seek his party’s ticket in elections and will be forced to prefer the latter to the former, former naxalite leader and poet K.G. Satyamurthy (Siva Sagar) observed here on Sunday.

There were instances of personalities gaining strength due to their fans and then jettisoning them, Mr. Satyamurthy said and cited Hitler as one example. Initially Hitler enjoyed the support of his admirers and fans and avoided them once he came to understand that they were not useful anymore.

Mr. Satyamurthy, who gained popularity as a poet with penname Siva Sagar, was addressing a press conference on the eve of himsdelivering the Ganti Somajayi endowment lecture being organised by Andhra University Department of Telugu on Monday.

On Chiranjeevi’s chances in the elections, he said that the film star-turned-politician could become a factor in the elections but he might not win because the Congress and Telugu Desam were very strong and knew very well how to run an election campaign. Chiranjeevi’s chances also depend on how best he could win over the dalits, BCs, minorities and poorer sections.

Dalit Mahasabha leader Katti Padma Rao joining Praja Rajyam was only for his personal gain and not for the sake of dalits or society, Mr. Satyamurthy said. Mr. Padma Rao’s action attracted an immediate reaction as the youth in Dalit Mahasabha, who were not happy with Mr. Padma Rao joining the Praja Rajyam, decided to organise the Mahasabha on their own.

Mr. Satyamurthy recalled Ambedkar’s speech in Parliament after Potti Sreeramulu’s sacrifice for a separate State, when he said a time would come when dalits would rule the State after the Brahmins, Reddys, Kammas and Kapus initially.

This observation made several decades ago was now being understood by the people, he said.

However, the SCs, STs, BCs and minorities could not build a strong political party on their own to gain power. This might not become a reality in future also, felt Mr. Satyamurthy.

In UP Dalits were winning many seats after Kansiram created a base and Mayavati could form a BSP Government at last but in the State but there was no such organised dalit party. He felt that there was no truth in the charges of corruption made against Ms. Mayawati.

HoD of Telugu Kothapalli Sudarshana Raju was also present.
