Confusion in PR over list of candidates

HYDERABAD:

Confusion reigned supreme in the Praja Rajyam as the time for release of the first list of candidates as promised by party president K. Chiranjeevi is due this week with some aspirants in the districts declaring before the media that their names have been cleared.

The high command is so vexed with such leaders going to the media on their own that Ch. Harirama Jogaiah repeatedly communicated to them through the press that no list has been ‘finalised’ yet. The announcement would be made only by the party president shortly.

Compounding the confusion are reports that several party leaders are unhappy at being denied a say in the selection of candidates. There are two categories of such names who feel ‘left out’.

The first category has people like general secretaries P. Vinay Kumar, apart from P. Mitra and P. Prabhakar, spokespersons since the beginning, before they stopped addressing the media and restricted themselves to party positions.

The other category has senior leaders who migrated to PR from other parties, like K. Vidyadhar Rao, T. Seetaram and G. Srinivasa Rao. Sources said all these leaders had some grouse or the other over being ignored in the selection process.

With the party president out of station on his ‘Praja Ankitha Yatra’, both categories of leaders and also those lobbying for the party ticket are pulling out all stops to meet general secretary Allu Aravind, the man with a ‘decisive say’ in the PR.

Chiru draws good crowds

Mahabubnagar:

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Sunday asserted that his party alone would provide responsible and accountable governance in the State.

On the third day of his Praja Ankitha Yatra in the district, his road shows at Pebbair, Srirangapur, Veepangandla, Chinnambai, Jetaprolu, Pentlavelli, Kollapur, Pedda Kothapalli, Nagarkurnool, Telkapalli and Achampet drew good response.

At his roadside meetings he addressed thousands of people, specially youth who thronged to have a glimpse of the actor-turned-politician, lashing out at Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu. They ruled the State as per their whims and fancies, turning a blind eye to the plight of the people, he alleged, adding that they used the floor of the Assembly to settle personal scores. “They abused each other, exposed each other on their illegal earnings and how they amassed public money,” he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said the Congress Government’s ‘Jalayagnam’ had only increased bank balances and properties of Dr. Reddy and party MLAs and leaders. Neither had a single acre been brought under the plough, nor had it quenched people’s thirst for drinking water. He said though Mr. Naidu had adopted Mahabubnagar district promising to develop it, all that people here had got was step-motherly treatment.
